anyone know any good patterns for buntzen I tried bloodworms with no success , a olive bead head woolybugger seems to work but I am not shure of the depth ?? full sink line?? sinking tip?? floating with 15ft leader?? any suggestions would be great!!

i usually have good luck at the drop off zone around the island to the north of the dock. And the backside of the island to the west of the dock.

Olive Woolybugger is always a good place to start there. I was there today and saw a lot of water skeeters but there was nothing being taken off the top at all, and the water was glassy calm for the most part. It was a beautiful day out. I was doing some reading online about Buntzen Lake and some of the fisheries reports said that most to the fish caught (cutthroat) in that lake had small fish in their stomachs when opened up. I would try Stickback immitations, the lake is full of them.

Last year i saw balls of tiny fish going nuts on the top water as well which usually means there's a bunch of fish chasing bait fish and feeding from below. Which goes back to the stickleback immitations... I think thats the way to go.

I'm hoping to get out to Buntzen for some flyfishing. How do you guys fish the lake....float tube, canoe, shore?? Also, what areas are most productive?

I fish from a Pontoon Boat. For what might work, see my post above.

Interesting comment about minnows. I heard on multiple occasions that fish in Buntzen prefers very fast retrieve. So, a wooly bugger dragged in the upper layer behind kayak produces some very large trout (almost bucktailing).

the green woolybugger with a lead bead head seems to be my best success in my bellyboat with full sinking line,I have tried a few other patterns and I sem to always end up with that but this year I want to try out some bloodworm patterns and some micro leech patterns all is just training for when I go up to 100 mile house area on the may long weekend!!! dont forget we will be trolling lead core line full sink line, and a variety of flies and lures I already know what works up there but I have some really good new ideas!! I am going to hit buntzen on sat april 10 around 9;00 am if anyone wants to go out and drag a fly around??
