Author Topic: down rigging advice please

when using a flasher and down rigging do you put the line release clip above or below the flasher? and how much?

Fish'n BC

If you are trolling your bait/lure in tandem behind the flasher, the release clip should be 18' behind the flasher.

If you are trolling your bait/lure separately from the flasher (which is then attached to the cannon ball with a leader 5' shorter than the distance to the lure/bait), the release clip should be 8' above the flasher/cannon ball.

when youy said behind, do you mean beneath the flasher

i was thinking flasher 3 feet lure and bait but just didnt know wether the release clip should be above the flasher or in between flasher and lure

A 3' leader is ok if you are using a hoochie. If you are using a spoon or bait (herring/anchovy), I would use a 5'-6' leader. So the order is; bait - flasher - release clip - rod, the distance between the flasher and release clip would be 18'. Clip is above the flasher!
