Author Topic: Belly boat question. Two person options?
fetoid

Hey everyone. I’m thinking about getting into trout fishing and have a question regarding belly boats. I’m thinking about getting this one:

However, I have a 5 ½ yr old who loves to fish also. Has anybody seen any kind of kids belly boat (that keeps the kid dry), or two person solution? This looks nice; however, too expensive:

A simple raft won’t work for us because I’m a big guy.

Suggestions?

Use a canoe and build your own stabaliser's. When I get back to Canada next week I'll post photos. You can get a used canoe for as little as $100 and build the stabaliser's for around $40.

Thatsarainbow had a good suggestion. I myself fish from a canoe and have had a blast with my 3 y/o niece in the middle and her daddy up front.

Or you could go with a smaller 2-person pontoon boat if you need the portability/trunkability. They are stable and decent for calm water, some can even take motors.

X2 on the above......or you could also search the buy and sell forums on other fishing sites (FWR) or on craigslist/local classifieds and look for a little aluminium for $500

Thanks guys, I use it with my 2 year old and stand up in it without worrying of it tipping.

post some photos of the outrigger!. sounds like a practical idea.
as for kids in b'boats, sounds too brave to me. the big pontoons hold 2 but you may as well buy something more practical, like the canoe or cartopper

I picked up a 9 1/2 foot inflatable last year for $150 from craigslist and took my daughter out all summer. I'm 6'8" and 300+ and had no issues.

gearjammer, can you post a picture of you standing up in your inflatable fishing, that would be impressive! Unless you meant a little Zodiak, then fair enough. You've honestly got me curious as to whether you meant you fish standing up in this boat...
