Freak - Look at FRESH peeled shrimp or prawn tails from your local grocery stores. You can add a little colour by using some pro cure but they are good natural too. It makes it a little easier to keep them on your hook if you tie them up in bags, much like roe bags. Other bait that is popular is some fresh roe or even bugs. Don't rule out plastics as well....try little 4 inch or bigger 6 inch pink worms. There are many different colours but the most popular is bubble gum. There is gooey bobs which are effective when fished with some white wool. Jensen eggs with a little tuft of wool will work too. There are soooo many different baits and lures to use. Pick one that you feel confident with and go with it... confidence is key.

Fish can smell confidence. It sounds weird, but it's true.

Steelheader's first rule: don't give away your hotspot! You boys will be lucky if he lets you in on it...it's a fairly small system so don't get your hopes up.

Who uses a net while STEELHAEDING?

Firstly SS... anyone with a couple years or more of fishing experience would tell you that that fish is obviously more than a 6 pounder....The fish is also obvisibly bonked so it could be weighed. For example...this fish above caught by Rick Seely is approx. 6 pounds (and remember it is a closer view). Now compare the two. Secondly SS, a net would be useful if not mandatory for the situation in which he is fishing. That fish would have to be dragged up and over the fishing platform, not an easy task. I mean no disrespect, but it sounds like these comments are either tongue-in-cheek or they are those of an inexperienced fisher...

Thats not the Chehalis, there isnt any area there with that set up (paved walk way, park benches, and rails that look like rod holders!). Could be an ameriacan river for all we know...

Yes dire straits, the coments that you have corrected were not to be taken so seriously. I know the individual in the photo and yes I know where he was. This was a toung and cheek prodding. I appologise for getting so misunderstood. I hope you have a great day !

Thanks for clearing that up SS, It is difficlut to convey emotions/tone of voice without the smilies...There is the option of using the little tongue in cheek smilie also: Tight Lines buddy.

it doesn't matter what river he was fishing really..like you said all rivers that have steelhead will produce if you spend the time to brave the cold of winter....i can't really brave -15....for more than a few hours..did for a while but ended up with a frozen float and iced rings.

Fisher88, gotta have a steelhead tag even for Catch + Release. I'm not sure how many you can keep per day, I've never caught more than one so no worries here. Hatchery fish only....wild ones gotta go back.
