Author Topic: ice off interior lakes

some of you guys are chomping at the bit to get up here fishing.
i was in vernon today and the ice is half off swan lake.i suspect it will be ice free in about 4 or 5 days.
further south will be ahead of this of course. a fellow drowned while ice fishing in woods lk about 10 days ago.the were large gaps in the ice then so suspect it would be ice free now. the kokanee are waiting!
i drove home via the falkland chase road. jewel lake and pillar lk are just opening a bit around the edges. i suspect both these lakes will be another 10 days. these lakes are not high.neaer home, for example, phillips and skimikin are frozen solid still.
has anyone been by monte lake?
hope this helps some of you decide to stay home for a while yet!

I returned from the Barnhartvale area last night. Monte is still frozen solid.
stink finger

keep up the posts guys great info for us down on the coast who are dreaming of being somewhere else

the ice has really come off some of the lower lakes in the vernon/kamloops area.
monte lk is now ice free(it has some nice trout as well as kokaneeand is well worth a try). pillar lk is still frozen over though as is jewel lk. so you do not have to go very high to find ice still.
i suspect the next level of lakes will be ice free in a week.

thanks for the info. i am dying to float around and catch a fish or 2. still too cold for me. i stay in a tent.

jacko lake is ice free!!! I fished it and monte in the boat this weekend and lost a nice one at monte but thats it all weekend ... not even a bite at jacko.

the ice came off pillar lk on the weekend. it is safe to say all low level lks are ice free but it is still freezing every night so i'd bet the slightly higher lakes are still going to be a few days.
i'm going to try monte tommorrow hopefully. did you try for kokanee?

Does anyone know if the ice is off of Mculloch lake near kelowna, or any of the surrounding lakes up there?

Ice is off in joyce like 3-4 lbers coming out on chronimids and 1 lbers on spinner off shore(bluefoxes)

Haddo Bardolph Becker and aberdeen are all ice free now

Was campin and wheelin in the oliver area last week; madden ripley and sawmill are all ice free. Not much time for fishin though.
