Author Topic: Good salmon for eating?

Hi, I caught some good chum salmon at the stave the other day. Just wondering which salmon are good to eat? particularly fried or on the bbq. I hear Springs, are Coho good to eat? Where are they at this time of year and do you use wool for Coho too?
straight off the res

chum and pinks are pretty much the best things to eat out of the river
especiallyif they're nice and ripe

really? I heard chum were too oily and that they're not targeted by commercial fishermen as much. I guess you can still eat them but their not as good as sockeye or springs? Chum are apparently good to smoke

The key is fresh fish. Coho, springs, are best if silver. I wouldn't eat anything that has turned very colored, they've been in the river far too long. Any fish that also has rotting fins or flesh is best released back into river for nutrients. Obviously fish caught in the lower river would likely be better than upper.

P.S. I'm pretty sure the other posters are screwing with you.

very good to know. the ones I caught were super purple and colored. I guess that means that they're older
