Author Topic: Visitor from Seattle looking for a place to fish in Vancouver
p.t.

Greetings, my fellow anglers in Beautiful British Columbia.

I'm from Seattle, will be in Vancouver, BC for a week in early October, staying with a friend of mine in New Westminster. Given that Vancouver is a great place for salmon fishing and it's time of the year, I surely would like to try my hand at it during my stay. Could anybody point me a direction? Ideally, I'm looking for a river which is within reach (like 1 or 2 hr drive), public accessible, and can be fished from shore with waders. Being a stranger in a new place, I'm afraid I have to ask you to be as detailed as you can. (GPS coordinates would be the best! ^_^)

Thank you in advance!

BTW, don't worry, I'll behave. I already studied your fishing regulations althought I never got to fish in my previous trips. (I have to say, BC's regs are much stricter than Washington's. Like no stringers, no putting fish in a livewell alive, barbless hooks in many more places/situations, etc.)

the vedder river in chilliwack will fill your "guidelines". there is a good run of spring salmon , coho and chum salmon when you will be here.
it gets crowded but if you get off the road a bit , it isn't that bad.
hopefully someone more familiar with the river can give you , and myself, some tips as to some good spots.

If you search the fishing reports here, type in Vedder in the search form, you'll get a bunch of locations along the river (I think some of them have GPS). Those holes might be crowded though. You can drive along the river, park along the road and look for spots once you get there, good spots to try out are places where there already are cars parked along the road. Watch out for car breakins though.

Heres another link to a map.

Thank you, guys. From the pictures I found, Vedder river looks like a very nive place, sure will give it a try. Thanks again!
