Tried hiking up into Dennett Lake today taking the Munroe-Dennett trail starting on Quarry road.
Lower 450M weren't bad, although a little steep for the first hike of the year. Above about 475M was snow, and it's still deep up there. We followed another parties footprints until around 650M which is where they gave up (we saw them coming down when we went in). We carried on until close to 800M and that was enough. Since 700M up every step we'd been sinking to at least our knees in the snow, and jsut wasn't worth going any further to find a snow covered iced-over lake.
Question for those out there......are there any other trails into Dennett or is this about it. If there are, how would they compare to the trail we took. Were looking at going back in again in 2 weeks, and if there is another route would be nice to try that.
Pls advise if anyone knows of any.

You can go in off of the rifle range entrance but it's a hard trail head to find. The only advantage is you can cut allot off the climb but heading up the road. The snow wont be off the trails until late May, Ice will be off in a couple of weeks. Quarry Rd is the best way in but it has it's struggles too. It will be a VERY muddy trail till mid July.
If anyone goes up it would be interesting to hear what the lake level is like at Dennett as the dam is gone.

As far as I know the dam that is gone was at Munro Lake. I've heard it's not much more than a marsh now.
