I am renting a houseboat in the third weekend in September and I am bringing some avid fishermen from out East ... They are expecting me to find out where to fish and how to fish the Shuswap ... Any advice would be appreciated

spoons+downrigger=fish if you dont got a downrigger then you can pile on the weight instead but if you are using a trout set up make sure its a step up from the 6' medium action just cause the trout get to pretty respectable sizes in this lake

a spool of leadcore is much cheaper than downrigers if you dont have them. cost around 40$ for a spool.

I grew up on the little shuswap lake, and when we couldn't get a strike off a down rigger. We would use a gang troll and and flatfish. We would always catch two to four pound rainbows on the flatfish. Keep in mind you need a shuswap lake trout tag in addition to your regular b.c. license to retain rainbows and lakers, and your only aloud 1 a day and it must be over 50cm. Lots of kokanee in the two pound range can be taken on gang trolls with small orange flatfish or a dick nite. Those big lakers love the Apex!!!

You can also fish the mouth of the little shuswap for chinook. I believe you will catch the end of the salmon season. Use a #5 F.S.T. all silver or orange and silver, fish near the bottom. Best times are 5am to 7am and 6pm to 10pm. I have cought lots of fish in the 16-25lb range when I lived in Chase.

Sorry for the slow response ..
Thanks so much for your help ... I'm going out to buy a downrigger this afternoon and I'm looking forward to giving it a try.
I'll let you know how I make out.
