green guy

i have been told that not all feathers and marabou ect... are the same quality!? what should a fella be looking for when buy'in stuff?all the stuff in the craft store looks kinda bad.

thanks fella's

Things to look for are.

1-Color quality
2-Should be fluffy
3-Limited dust
4-Not to dry
5-whole feathers, not partial
6-The feathers should not be brittle
7-NO smell

When tying show flies, quality is very important, but I find for rivers and lakes, the quality is not too important. No living thing looks perfect while it is in motion or while strewn about marl and other lakeweed in real life. When swinging a fly in a river, the fish do not get a few minutes to sit and look at it and go "wtf, eww, i dont like that one". They are huntin another animal that is "on the run" from them, and nothing that is scared or worried will show perfect markings, patterns or colourations.
