im getting a new fishing rod one of these days and need help choosing.. im looking for a rod that is handy for the vedder type streams and possibly the fraser.. and strong enough for springs... as well as a reel.. the set up not too expensive... if you have any ideas, please post!!thanks

Hey man i just got into vedder fishing and all, everything you said will not be cheap. you can get the quantum combos if you want. they are pretty cheap. but they are usually 9'6. try shimano or berkley. go for shimano. thats your best bet

okay thanks.. ya i no it wont be cheap... but cheaper compared to some awesome setups...

hey does anybody out there know generally how much pounds of pressure salmon ranging from size give off? and also trout? like how much pounds of pressure a 50 lbs pound salmon gives off, or how much a 2 lbs pound trout gives off, or how much a 20 lbs pound salmon gives off. thx

a longer rod will allow you to cast more distance and allow you to fight larger fish with lighter line....8 to 12lb test. in river conditions light line is essential and a longer length rod will absorb more shock and will also fight the fish for you. in many cases you can feel the slightest touch of a fish as it gently mouths the bait. i use a 9.5 shimano heavy action i got at army and navy with an ambassadeur reel. 15lb test line. i get good casting distance and the tip is sensitive to any touch. good luck!!
