Author Topic: Bass on the fly

Anyone got any tips for bass fishing on the fly? Heading out to Mill lake next weekend and thought I'd go after some Bass. Any patterns or tecniques that work well there?

Let me know if you want any good patterns for Vaseux or Skaha lake.

it might be cold this time of year, I wanted to do some bass fishing on the fly as well so im ordering these awesome looking bass flies of ebay. But im sure leeches would work as well. Let us know how it went!
stink finger

for bass the water should be above 60 and preferably above 70 july ,august 7 or 8 weight rod to cast those huge flies not an expert but just read an old bc outdoors article

smallmouth are pretty active in cold water, just put a worm in front of its face, and cover a lot of water

Since you are looking for fly information I would suggest using a small frog pattern our a sculpin.

Try googling bass on the fly or bass fly patterns and you will get lots of info. Bass will be slow right now as it is not an active feeding time but you may get some luck.

The best place to go in the Proivince in my opinion is Duck/Leetch lakes in the Kootnays.

I fished there a few times with the fly and the smallest caught was 3 pounds and the largest just over9. I fished the lake for 5-6 hrs and pulled in 15 Bass.

I would suggest a 8wt rod for these lakes because of the size of the fish and the amount of weeds. If you want more info you can e-mail me at

Wow, over 9 pounds!! and nothing under 3!! thats hard to beleive, we were there last summer, biggest we caught was 22' long, about 4.5 pounds, lots of smaller fish too. Great lake!! But 9 pounder eh, do you have any pics of that thing??

Ya I do, I'll need to find them and post them later.

Lol, i see, gotchya

I found the pics, I will go to london drugs and get them put on a CD in the next day or so.
I took them with my 35mm so they will need to be converted to Digital.

BTW don't doubt me, I don't Bull sh*t I do this for a living so there is no advantage for me to lie.

try a steelhead bee or bright colored streamer. from my experience, bass eat just about anything that they can see
