I usually go to Bear lake with my buddies on quads for icefishing, just wondering if there are some other good lakes around the Oliver, Osoyoos and Penticton area?

quads? aren't they a bit hard to drive up that hill in snow.I stick to snow mobiles for my winter treking.
Anyways if you are willing to make an aproximately 1 hour drive to hathueme lake then you will be rewarded nicely with some nice festively plump rainbows. Just use some shirmp (try not to use any from the grocery store)or power bait, maggots worms (the usual ice fishing stuff) and try to balance your rod on your chair so that the butt and reel are all th way behind your chair and the rest is in front. This way you will be able to detect the most pussy ass strikes and will be able to get your fish.
mcs

No problem with quads. Bear claw tires and 4 wheel drive will take you anywhere. I've fished Hathuem before just not in the winter, maybe give it a try.

mcs, maybe take the time to blow the dust off your fishing regs before dispensing advice to fish illegally! Quality stuff there....

Where is the thumbs down and angry icon?

mcs?? Dont you mean bass master 99??
mcs

Ya dookie, don't address your anger towards me when I havn't done anything wrong. WTF am I doing that's giving illegal advice?

-mcs
dookie

I posted the link, figure it out. You just might learn something about the regulations in the area you fish in, god forbid.....
mcs

I didn't even give out any illegal advice. I told someone that I might try out a new area. If there is one single piece of advice that I've given that's illegal, I would be quite humbled for you to tell me what it is so I could stop giving it out. Even if I did, you need to have the CO's worry about it, not God.

sorry guys i've fished Hathueme before in the winter and i dont think it was illegal before. And dookie you dont have to be like that when you tell someone off. Atleast try not to be an A hole.
mcs

bassmaster99, there is no need to be sorry at all. The fact that you show that you might have make a small mistake shows that you are obviosly a good person, and meant no bad intentions when giving advice!

Nice. I guess that is what this forum is all about, suggest people icefish a closed quality managed fishery, then post all the profanity you can manage to spell when someone takes exception to it.

mcs wrote: "I've fished Hathuem before just not in the winter, maybe give it a try" looks like advice to go ice fish Hatheume to me.

Take 2 seconds and check out the link that plainly shows Hathueme is closed in the winter!

Class act boys!

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and good will towards men.Ring any bells people? Lighten up and spread joy not hate. We've got more than enough of that to go around. Sheesh. Dookie seems to have made a relevant point, however the manner of making all aware perhaps needed polishing. Mcs seems to have made an honest mistake. Seems to me that we are all adults here, and we are all responsible for our own actions. An excellent lesson to be learned here, BEFORE FISHING CHECK THE REGS. Telling a CO that yer fishing here cuz yer buddy said it was good won't cut it.Having said my 2 cents worth I hope we can all learn to get along. Shane.
The Yak

Thanks fish696... You said it well enough that a reply from me seems moot.

And without profanity no doubt.

Eve though I had to so elloquently edit mcs's post.
mcs

Sorry if it came across as giving advice, but I meant it as, I myself would try it. I was obviously incorrectly told that I can fish there, and assumed that whoever told me thought it was legal to in the winter. Sorry for the mixup and offensiveness, I just felt frustrated when I was accused because of somebody elses assumption.

mcs, In the spirit of the season I hope Santa stuffed a copy of the regs into your stocking. If not please make the effort of picking one up when you buy your license this april, and use it!

"not knowing" it was illegal is a damned poor excuse. I hope you do a little better when actually wetting a line, but it doesn't sound like it.

I also hope there was some repercussions for your language that required moderator intervention, but again, it doesn't sound like it.

Does this mean I'm free to tell mcs to f*** off whenever I feel the need with the only action taken is a moderator edit of my post? just curious
dookie

bass master 99, best take a look at yourself before calling others A-hole. Hathueme is not only closed but artificial fly/bait ban, but then you knew that didn't you? I suspect you are nothing more than a low-brow forum troll as your posts lack the style of real baiter.

Dookie.... In the spirit of the season, let it go. Unless you are a CO it's none of your business what others do on the river or in the lake. You made your point, further bad mouthing isn't going to help anything.
mcs

Dookie, how old are you, really? I'm 16 and I realize that I've made a mistake and already have gave my apologies. Now, it doesn't take much to do that, but I sure hope that your a mature eneugh man to also take the higher road. You can continue to make a jerk of yourself on the forum, but I would like to see you let it go. If you want to tell me to f**k off, that's your choice.

mcs, it isn't personal, The waters are worth protecting.

I'll leave on this gem:

"Unless you are a CO it's none of your business what others do on the river or in the lake."

fisher 696

I should have been clearer with my words. I meant in the context of this forum it's not our business to police people. Gentle guidance is great. On the rivers and lakes themselves it is up to us to be the eyes of goodness and record & report where necessary. Thanks for showing me my poor wording.
shizzyisback

dont sweat these ol tymers youngbuck, they arnt half as brave on the river trust me, from ur early days fishin and more to come u will make a mistake or "accidently " over look a reg or whatever the case may be ..just do ur best to "not" become a habitual breaker ...educate urself with ur local regs, and regs were u will be fishing other wise..tight lines fellas...mcs live n learn youngster and you will outfish all these guys in do time..lol

Boys, Hatheume Lake is one of the best lakes in the country. I have been fishing it for many years now and it produces some of the largest Rainbow's I've ever seen!! Unless the regulations have changed in the last month, Hatheume Lake is a fly-only lake that closes for fishing from Dec. 1 - Apr.31. If we are fortunate enough to have ice in November, you are allowed to ice fish there, however, as it is a fly-only lake, I don't know if this is feasible, vertical jigging a fly....? The reason these regulations are placed on these tributaries is to preserve the natural stock of fish habitat in them and so we, our kids and our grandkids can enjoy angling for the plentiful stock that reside in them.
The Yak

You could ice fish with a chironomid i guess. I think that would work...

Any thoughts people?
mcs

Ya chronies do work, aswell as shrimp. Just use very small, but very bright ones, probably around a sz.16-18 hook.
