Author Topic: Help a newbie get going

I used to sea fish many years ago but when it comes to freshwater (lakes, rivers, sloughs) I can't even tell the fish species. I am wondering if anyone can give me advice on which lake is good to fish from shore. I don't have a boat and I'm not looking for trophy fish. Just your basic foot-long trout, carp and other stuff. I have basic gear, rod, floats, hooks and weights. Nothing too complicated.
Eventually I might want to learn to fly-fish and use lures but for not I just want to relax and catch a few fish to get back the love of fishing. Using worms, bread etc.
Many thanks.

Where do you live?

Mare Nostrum

Lower Mainland.
Oops, I forgot to mention that.

try white pines beach you can fish off the docks near the south end of the lake best times are early morning and late evenings best to use worms or yellow powerbait paste.
i usually do fine there use a bobber at around 7-10 depending on the temp of the water.

Very nice places to relax and fish

Is that even good for fishing?

Sometimes, but most part is rock fish conservation area.
Sometime is good for pink as i remember, not bad for crabbin or prawning between two falls. Nice for kids and camping, but unfortunately access only by boat or foot.
