Can someone help me out on the preferred roe for fishing the Vedder and opinions on the curing would also be appreciated.

I believe ther is a bait ban (no natural baits/scents) on the vedder river right now. You might want to double check though.

You are not allowed to keep Pinks abover Vedder Crossing bridge. But you can still fish for Coho (you are allowed to keep only hatchery ones).

sparky...I know this is late but maybe i can help you. The best roe, i find, for coho and other salmon is spring roe or chum roe. The roe from these fish is good because of the larger size of egg. Coho roe of Pink roe can also be very good, but sometimes the larger eggs can be more effective. I am assuming you are talking about curing skeins of roe so the best method is using a pro-cure type cure for them. It adds colour and helps lock in scent. To cure follow the directions on the bottle of procure. A few things: If you want your roe to be very tacky, almost rubbery so it stays on your hook, let it air dry for a couple of days as opposed to a few hours. It can also help if you leave the roe in the juice created by the pro cure over night so the colour and scent are maximized. Air drying is key to good roe. Lay the skeins on some sort of mesh screen after sitting in the curing solution. make sure the screen is not metal because it can ruin the roe. When drying, make sure you place a towel over top of the roe to protect it from mold spores. If the edges begin to become hard, maoisten the towel on top. The end product is usually very good. After it is cured and dried, store it in a ziploc bag or any type of air tight container and put it in the frezer. Before you throw it in the freezer, roll it in a little bit of borax to prevent the cure from starting up again after the eggs have defrosted. This should provide you with some decent roe.

btw: no bait ban on the vedder and pink retention is now closed on the whole river.

Thanks Dyer, you have provided me with exactly info I was looking for...I boraxed some pink roe and used it last week at vedder, but found that I spent a lot of time rebaiting and washing my paws ..I will try the procure.
