Hey i went to buntzen lake today for about 7 hours, and i didnt catch anything. i was wondering what was a good lure to use, or bait because i was using a purple panther martin spinner, and also a dick nite spoon. i was wondering what was a good lure for that lake, and also what is a good lure for sasamat. i caught jack all! i was also starting to get into fly fishing, and i was wonderin if wet fly fishing or dry fly fishing is better for creeks and lakes. thx

use powerbait on size 6 hook 3-4 foot leader cast far and wait great sucess last week caught 8 rainbows
Michael

use a black or white rooster tail spinner in 1/6 or 1/8 oz sizes and troll with a good length of line out.

Buntzen is DEEEEEEEEEEEP and I find the fish hang out around 8 to 15 feet of water, even though it may be 30 feet deep in the area you are in.

20 feet from the main dock it is about 40 feet or so.

Just to add to my previous post. I have had all my success in the yellow areas on the attached map. The green is the boat launch area.
JoHn87

do u actually fish near that big bc hydro building thing? left of the boat launch. do u have any success?
Michael

No never. I did one or twice when i first fished there but never had any success. I stick to the yellow areas everytime I go there.
JoHn87

ya i saw people in belly boats going near the coast side where the yellow is. near that cliff . they were flyfishing with great success. i was angling int he middle of the lake where its deepest. im guessing that isnt the best of ideas.

The yellow areas and around them are good for small fish, if you want fewer but larger fish any of the deeper areas of the lake are better. Then there are those that illegally tie up to the rearing station.

Anonymous. what lure or fly would u recommend to use in deep areas fishing for cutthroat trout, and rainbow trout?

PS. it would be great to know how deep i have to fly fish till i have to retrieve again if you would know this info.

anyhow, im headin up to buntzen this sunday. can anyone tell me if its good to fly fish there with a dinghi, if it is good to fish with powerbait, and i was wondering what bait can float besides powerbait. if it is a good idea to take a dinghi out there, or if it is a better idea to stay on the dock. do them garlic marshmellows produce well? how is the fishing there right now?? i was really curious. how do i catch coastal cuttroat trout? do i use the same lures as the rainbow and the same depth which would be midwater- top? do you think fishing with a weight, and a leader would be better with floating bait, or do you think float fishing with a worm would be better????
el-nino2010

stick with the power bait or power nuggets and some lead weight if you plan to fish along the shore. if you have elecric motor you can troll using dew worms and gangtroll setup. they all work good for rainbows and cuttys.
JoHn87

how many feet leader after the weight, and before the hook should i use? i have power nuggets, and so on. power dough is also good too i suppose? and can i use pencil lead weights?
el-nino2010

hey xjohnx. i had most of my success with just 5lb test line...ultralight spinning gear is the key. i use no leader and a sinker weight about 2 feet from the hook is about enough. if your in sassamat lake use about 10lb line and a triangle weight to bring it down to the bottom. in this case make your line up to your weight about 3 to 4 feet. the reason is the power bait must act natureally and float around uninterrupted.if you fish on the floating bridge this method is very productive.saaasamat lake is avery deep lake as well.i have seen a few fishermen using the sparkle red power bait with excellent results. good luck

I was fishing Buntzen lake until Sept. I use a bellboat and flyrod with a green wholly worm and usually caught 4 rainbows between 11 inches and 14 inches. stay to the left side of the lake off the dock and you should have good success in 2004.

specifically back to the elnino-2010 entry,
you mentioned a particular method but a little more detail would be helpful so we can try this setup
