Looking for a good fish finder gps system for use in the ocean. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what to look for. I'm willing to spend up to $1000 or hopefully a bit lesss for an easy to read yet good quality unit to find those fish, prawns etc way down there !

Anything Garmin or Lowrance for Salt and Fresh water in my opinion. Garmin has acquired Navionics and the parent company of Lowrance ( Navaco ) has partnered with Garmin to share HD imaging and Garmins Livescipe technology. Humminbird is the only company left licensing HD imaging from Navaco and are completely left out of Garmins Livescope tech. Simrad and Raymarine are always a good choice. HOWEVER, the selection of Lowrance and Garmin is amazing and the customer service over at Garmin is nothing short of spectacular. I lost a set knob for my EchoMap Plus 95sv and Garmin sent me two brand new cradle mounts for free. Check Radioworld.ca and other online Canadian site. I'm sure you could find an Echomap plus chartplotter for a decent price. My last bit of advice is NOT TO CHEAP OUT on a chartplotter. They are worth every penny. The ability to set a course and avoid a certain depth is crucial when trolling the salt of fresh water.
