Author Topic: Big Cohos in deer lake

Hi just wondering if any one has hooked a Deer lake Coho??Ive heard rumers there is a big population in that bass pond any one caught any --If so can you keep salmon that end up in lakes ,any help be great thanks

the regulations are for finding that out. I would never trust someone's word on something that could get my tackle/guns/vehicles confiscated. hunting and fishing, always have a regulation book with you and refer to it for whatever spot you are going to.

similar for if they are in there even. only true way to know, is to catch one. I have always figured there has to be lakers in Okanagan lake, it wouldn't make sense that there isn't. Shuswap, kalamalka, arrow, kootenay, all the bigger lakes have them, so why would Okanagan be different. yet all the "experts" always say "definitely not". we finally caught one, years ago now, and confirmed our suspicion for ourselves. and guys were still saying "nope", even when I would discuss it with them.

This table refers to fishing for salmon only. For information on other species please refer to the B.C. Freshwater Fishing Regulations Synopsis.

Unless otherwise stated in the table below, the daily limit for all waters in Region 2 is zero (0).

Deer Lake is not listed below so no retention.

Just the same as Rice lake where you can catch Coho. People retain them by mistake because they think they are stocked trout, unfortunately they don't know better, and don't know how to ID fish.

You can fish for them, but just put them back. Have fun and good luck.

Not sure about Lake Trout(Char) in Kootenay or Arrow Lakes, good populations of Bull trout(also a Char)though. If anybody has a link for evidence of Lake Trout in those lakes, please post as I've always wondered about the range of Lake Trout in BC.
