Author Topic: Why is nobody fishing Hope to Yale?

I spent yesterday exploring the Fraser along hwy #1 and saw lots of people before Hope but from Hope to Yale nothing. I found some incredible fishing spots in the stretch betweend these two towns but kept my gear in my car as the fact nobody was around made me nervous. I checked the regs but they don't seem to say it's closed just the usually do'so and don't.

So what's up? I asked around and some people think it might be Native land that's private but there are people gold panning.

So I spoke with the fisheries people and they said there is native land that we need permission to fish on....but they have no idea where the land is or where the borders are. Weird stuff.

They are going to have the field officer call me today to try and get some clarification.

The quest for info continues....

As I zoom in and out on Google maps, I see different territories marked w/ names like "Albert Flat 5" and "Qualark 4" When I google these w/ "reservation" I do see some links pointing out that these are reserved land:
I then found these maps that you can zoom in on:
And it does look like that area of the river has several Reserves.

Slow day at work.

If you want to find the location and boundaries of any reserve in Canada, download a Canada Lands KMZ file for Google Earth.

Go here:

You will be surprised at how much FN lands that we the Non-FN anglers fish on without knowing. check out the extent of Squamish Nation, Capilano No. 5 on the west side of the river.

As long as you can catch a fish

That's great info thanks.

Those are some serious Google search skills you have!

Ya it was tough keeping my rod in the car but it's far better then fishing with ignorance.

Thanks for the map link it's going to help big time.
