Author Topic: Steelhead?

Is now a good time to go fishing for steelhead? if so where, and with what?

Why not read the advice you received from your "is anyone fishing". Basically the answer is the same. Why don't you get out fishing and post about your success or lack of luck. Someone might be able to help you then.

I see you filed a report. If you want advice tell what you did and how you did it . Someone might be able to offer advice.

Steelhead is easy to entice but not easy to find, especially online

Cagey my old post you said steelhead were starting. I would like to know if they are still running and where they would be around this time.

still there. Same places . Steelhead are the fish of a thousand casts. (or a lot more for most of us ). This time of year I'd probably fish further upstream than Lickman but anywhere is better than in front of the computor as Tinyfly says.

Yes, now is a great time to go. There are later runs that hit the rivers and many anglers are burned out from earlier fishing and so you will find a little less pressure on the rivers. With the warmer water the fish also become a little more aggressive and will chase down your offering over a longer distance. You can fish rivers like the Vedder right up until it blows with the freshet.

The Squamish watershed is a late system and fish are only just starting to arrive in decent numbers. Go find them and enjoy.

As for fishing with what, just stick with something you are comfortable with. Steelhead are not particularly difficult to catch and will almost take anything. However, they do become a fish of a thousand casts on rivers that get pounded. I have fished a river with summers that do not see any fishing pressure and they were a fish of 2-3 casts.

Short float roe, wool, Colorado blades, pink worms and jigs, swing spoons or spinners or try swingeing flies. Spoons probably represent the easiest method of fishing for many anglers that also allows you to cover a lot of water very quickly and efficiently.

Thank you that is the information I was looking for.

First steel on the double hander:

jealousy will get me no where...gorgeous fish...congrads!

Oh look, snap!

Absolutely beautiful. Congratulations!

Thanks, it was a nice surprise for the end of the season before all the rivers blow.
