Myself and a couple of pals are planning a trip to BC from England next year in the hope of doing some salmon fly fishing on the rivers, preferably wading. We have heared good reports on the Skeena area but would welcome any help and advise. Is July/August a good time to come- hopefully fishing floating lines in not too hot a weather. So long as we are fishing for salmon we are not too bothered what type.Regards Lofty

I think you would do well on the Skeena in either of those months. Do you intend to fish on your own or with a guide? You may want to consider a guide for a day to learn local knowledge & then continue by yourselves.
Kispiox Special

That time would be great for most species of the salmon in the Skeena. I would advise you to try the Kitselas Bar. To arrive at this bar, start at North Coast Anglers tackle shop) drive up Kalum Street up the hill. You will come to a 4 way. Drive straight through this and you will see a gravel road on your right called "Kitselas". Follow this road for about 10 minutes (the grader sometimes doesn't get to it for a while and it can be rough with potholes). Its the THIRD road on your right hand side, and it crosses the train tracks. The second road has a gate across it and is inaccessable, so once you see the blocked off road you will know that the next road is the way to the bar. Just cross the tracks and park on the open spot. The trail is hard to miss, as someone has cleared out the brush at the opening. Good luck! I've found that Egg sucking leaches work good for the Steelhead showing up in August. An intermediate sink tip might be a better bet though.

Many thanks to Fish696 and Kispioux for your help I certainly think we will enlist the help of a guide.
