Author Topic: Chum

Just wondering the best stuff to use for chum and best places to find them. I am pretty new to salmon fishing, I have pink jigs and some spoons. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Short floating jigs will get you into chums. Also size 2 - 4 Colorado blades.
Jig colours can vary. Pink/white, chartreuse, lots of purple selections as well.

Stave river, vedder/chilliwack river. Over the next 2 weeks the chum will be flooding in, in big #'s.

Using Google will show you some other areas to fish for them, but that's your job to search.

The Dewdney slough is popular for chum also, plus no parking problems or flossers. Norrish creek maybe, but it is a bit of a gong show. I sometimes get chum along with steelhead and cutthroat as by-catch on the lower Fraser while fishing for coho and springs. Harrison river is a bit more of a hike, but also good for chum.

When are the chum gonna reach the squamish and the Mamquam? Feels like i miss that opportunity every year...

purple/pink, purple/black and blue/black marabou jigs with an 18" leader and 1-3ft deep.....will catch as many chum as you can handle if they are around

Thanks a lot its greatly appreciated
