Author Topic: sturgeon tidal fraser

I was wondering cuz my friend told me that where is a bait ban on fraser in fall . does that affect sturgeon fishing too or its just for salmon ?!

does not apply to sturgeon, look at how many guides are out fishing for them. Baits the only thing the will bite

Bait ban only applies to the salmon fishery.

ty )))

lol... everyone believes it's only for salmon and it makes sense it is only for salmon since sturgeon bait wouldn't do dick to salmon.

but, dfo doesn't seem to think so! lol... if u go to the tidal fraser regulations

u'll see that the bait ban is for ALL FINFISH (near the bottom), meaning salmon, trout, steelhead, sturgeon and everything else that swims in the fraser. explain that to the court when u get a fine for using bait now.

weird cuz in sturgeon regulations its says u can fish for sturgeon all year around , but how u fish for sturgeon without a bait ?!

im getting confused now

dump can u explain to me please

I`ll give u a hug dump plzzzzzzzzzzzzz

god damn dumpy , take me fishing with ya ))))))
I got 6 sturgeons so far ))))) I want some salmon (((

I will be quite !!!! plzzzzzzz))))

btw dumpy , aaron and couple other buds of mine saying that bait ban doesn't affect sturgeon cuz those dinos are different ... looks like ban is to protect early coho , and like I said sturgeon fishing is all year round ..

can u do me a favour and double check that ?!

p.s. I like those dinos so much those are some godly looking creatures .....

yes plz dump , could u plz double check with dfo if im allowed to use bait if im targeting sturgeon in tidal waters ( worms , roe , oolicans ) . and let me know or if u can give me contacts to dfo i can do it myself . thanks a lot .

why are u asking dump to do all these things for u? u have a thing for him?

I ask him because im getting confused , u can see it in this thread some people say u can , some people say u cant . besides hes got dfo on a speed dial probably

did u even bother going to the dfo link i posted?

•All Finfish:•September 2 - October 03, 2014: bait ban in effect.

what does that mean ?!

English is my second language so im getting confused ...

That's a poor excuse

if its poor try call 6046662828 and without proper English talk to voice machine

btw if u r so wellknown regulations dude - how come sturgeon guides and all tackle stores say that u r allowed to use bait if aiming for sturgeon ?!

maybe u just wanna try to be a smart ass without any clue u r talking about ?!

Beak you amaze me. Alex is man enough to admit his difficulty with English. He is asking for help which Dump has been good enough to steer him straight. You were good enough to provide an answer which still confuses him. I thought there was some exemption for sturgeon but have no idea what makes me think so.
Alex , I will try and find an email address to ask dfo, it might be tomorrow . maybe someone else has it handy.

Alex, send an email with the heading "question" to They will respond quite quickly. just specify exactly what your question is like you di in this thread.

There is a bunch of different ways to get ahold of them. Top one is Surrey Branch.
A quick google search can usually find what you are looking for.

I know second language is your second language but there are ways to find it out, and make sure you know before you go. As its no excuse when you have bonked the wrong fish or fishing illegal methods etc.

that is why he is asking . he does not want to make a mistake. he is fast becoming a fisherman !!

moe - Phone: (604) 586-4400 this is fax number , such as other ones I tried before ... I can tell u that they work till 4pm , with lunch time from 12 to 1 ... it still doesn't answer my question ....

I ve got over 10 numbers I called today and no answer ...

so before u try to make fun a being a smart ass - try to answer my question urself - and if u can share ...

p.s. ty

Well i know how i interpret the regs, and that is a bait ban plane and simple. I wouldn't be using bait out there if i was.

And judging by your responses on the infor people trying to help you are like, it will be very limited to how people respond in future occasions. I have had to figure things out in the past and have found them myself, not wanting to be spoonfed everything.

You are responsible for knowing the right regs, not what people say on the internet. I wouldn't trust any regulation info that i have heard on the internet or word of mouth without first checking, or confirming with the co office.

well first of all big ty for cagey .
second - moe , be realistic - start reading from start - some people say u can , some people say u cant . regulations are not clear . if you check with berries bait and tackle - u can . weird ?

now with cagey`s help I sent an email to dfo , and if im allowed to fish for sturgeon - I will just print that reply and keep on me

Fraser River (Lower)

Effective September 2nd until October 3rd you may not fish for Coho and a baitban is in effect

Sturgeon fishing has been excellent... Lamprey eels are always a good bet as well when all else fails and we now have a good supply of X large, Large, medium and small Lamprey Eels in stock as well as fresh frozen salmon roe .

well I got my answer by calling all day long today

funny thing is that most of the people I was talking to didn't know there was a bait ban . those people from dfo .

only 1 guy advised me to call steveston dfo office , which I did and took under a minute for a clear answer ....

Ty all for help .

Any chance you'd share what they said?

sure , like most of u said - its ur own responsibility to figure it out

p.s. my email is listed above for "lazy people who don't wanna do it by themselves" ...

You're an idiot.

Alexfromrichmond, what a totally ignorant answer. After all your whining and questions for help you have a chance to let members know what you found out from DFO and you can't be bothered. I doubt if you will get any more help from members here.

Alex, I thought you were worth the effort to help the answer .

cagey ofcuz I will post it , I was just wondering to see reaction of the people who didn't help , with almost 100% being sure that they don't know !

im still waiting call back or email from surrey branch , and e-mail u gave me ( ty a lot for that help ) .

so far like I said I called steveston branch yesterday , and the guy gave me clear answer under 1 minute .
There is a bait ban in Tidal Fraser for ANY finfish , including sturgeon . He was too nice and explain clearly what bait ban mean - u can see in regs , u pretty much allow to use only non scent bait such as wool .

like I said above this question is very confusing , that even some branches and dfo`s couldn't answer to me ( still waiting on their emails... ) .

I will post reply`s from emails as soon as I will get em .

So basically what I told you at the beginning of the thread. Thanks for wasting our time.

u r welcome , hope those 2 gents who answered before u will read this ... before giving false info

Who's giving false info?

Posted: 9/2/2014 12:16:34 AM Reply Bait ban only applies to the salmon fishery.

I`d rather be an idiot like gf said , or ignorant or w/e , but I wont go fishing if im not sure , to be honest more than 75% of my buds still thinking there is no bait ban ...

and as u can see dump who is usually quick to react , didn't post anything im pretty sure he has some difficultys with figuring it out it if he would try it , as I believe he does

p.s. maybe u will make up ur mind about "me wasting ur time"
too funny

As per usual DFO messes up ,just like other years the ban is for salmon only you can use bait to target sturgeon or chub.

Like I said alexfromrichmond here it is in plain writing although I didn't like your response to others who were giving you a helping hand you didn't bother return the favor you might wanna think about how you handle the situation.

FN0978-RECREATIONAL - Salmon - Area 29 - Correction to Sport Fishing Guide with regard to the bait ban in the Tidal Fraser River

Please note that there is an error on page 29 of the 2013 - 2015 Tidal Waters
Sport Fishing Guide. The bait ban described only applies when fishing for
salmon. The bait ban is not in effect when fishing for other species such as
sturgeon. The correct information follows:

Effective September 2 to October 3, 2014, you may not use bait when fishing for
salmon. The use of bait is permitted when fishing for all other species during
this time frame.

Barbless hooks are required when fishing for salmon in tidal and non-tidal
waters of British Columbia.

Anglers are requested to release any hatchery marked sockeye. These fish are
hatchery raised sockeye and part of a recovery program designed to increase the
numbers of Cultus Lake sockeye.

The term "marked" means a hatchery fish that has a healed scar in place of the
adipose fin.

Sport anglers are encouraged to participate in the Salmon Sport Head Recovery
program by labelling and submitting heads from adipose fin-clipped chinook and
coho salmon. Recovery of coded-wire tags provides critical information for
coast-wide stock assessment. Contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery Program

Rockfish Conservation Areas that are currently in effect and are closed to all
fin fishing. Descriptions of these closures, and other recreational fishing
information, can be found on the Internet at:

thanks mate , just about to post the same

I can say only 2 things :
1) for those who said that im an idiot and blalala .... see how long it took dfo to make acception for their mistake ?
2) im glad I was "raping" their minds by phone and I hope a few other people did the same thing . and we got our sturgy fishing back !!!!

p.s. see ya on the river tmrw !!!!!

beak thanks for "true" info

If DFO says it, you follow it, and not so surprisingly, they effed up.
Glad once he got the info he shared with the forum like a mature contributor though. So my response to your previous post calling you an idiot stands valid.
It's everyone's duty to check the regs now for themselves, but at least they get a heads up.

Good luck on the river.

Hey what's with the immature "name calling" all of a sudden? I thought that was against forum policy?

im pretty sure gf didn't mean that ) if u talk about him

dumb before "no talking situation" can I see the quote in which I called u an idiot ?
