I saw a report from mustang about an eagle trying to steal his fish. if you live in the Kamloops/Vernon area and want some great entertainment try Monte Lake.
I had a very enjoyable day there last week with the better half. we had bad luck on the kokanee but the birds provided a great show. an osprey showed off its fishing skills catching a nice 1 pound fish. he was afraid to go right to his nest so took a few circles. on his first circle 3 bald eagles came flying down the lake towards the osprey. the 4 birds took part in some arial combat with one eagle finally hitting the osprey in mid air, knocking the prize fish drop to the water. the eagles dove down after the fish but it managed to get away. 4 distraught birds! a while later the osprey had recovered enough to try his luck at fishing once more. this time the fish was closer to 2 pounds ( it is not easy to guess fish weights when they are 100 feet above you !!!). this time he appeared free and clear as he did his 2nd circle. he almost landed in his nest but thought he should take another swing. it was a big mistake ans a huge eagle ( not sure what kind it was. not a baldie..........bigger) swooped down from above sending the osprey into a tailspin. the eagle caught the fish in mid-air and flew to a nearby tree to enjoy his meal. on the way the osprey made a final attack but could not knock the fish loose. he managed to fly to a nearby tree to recover. Great action. I missed 2 bites watching the entertainment ! by the way, the koks are a pretty good size this year. a buddy caught a 19 inch kok and another had 3 17 inchers the other day. the big ones are deeper it seems. will try my luck again this week but will try and remember the camera to record the entertainment !

I was fishing a run last winter for steelhead..not a hit for days..then a eagle swoops by and plucks 1 outta the water 50 feet from me...i was pissed...but it was awesome

I was back to Monte lk the other day. Another great show of attempts at catching fish. The poor osprey must have missed 6 times in a row. There were a pair of baldies watching every move the osprey made. every time it would dive they would swoop off their perch then return in disgust. The fishing was slow until we were ready to go home then we caught some small koks for dinner. the eagles did not have any faith in me as they did not come near when we had the fish on. I guess they did not believe it after watching us so long. great day !
