I just got back from LL; what a beautiful lake! We rented a canoe for the day, and fished the south end of the lake. We pulled out 3 rainbows in the morning, then another later that evening.

Here are my two; the one on the top was the bigger one. His flesh was as red as an apple, and he was absolutely delicious.

The female at the bottom had pale pink flesh, and didn't taste very good at all. The one we caught that night had even more pale flesh, and tasted even worse.

Is there a way to tell which rainbows are the tasty ones, without ripping them open to see if their flesh is red?
The Yak

look inside there gills. I know it works for Chinnok Salmon

If you go there again try out Flash Lake. Find the hole in the lake and you'll be pulling in fish hand over fist.

The hole would be the part of the lake where the water is darker than the rest of the lake (hehe). To my knowledge there is only one area deeper then about 15 feet in Flash Lake.

I wanted to, but we were tired after a day of rowing a canoe around lightning lake

Can you fish the hole from the shore?
Lucky Fisherman

Yah, just hike down the main trail for approx 10-15 minutes. Check for a trail leading down to the lake from the main hiking path and look for dark water, you can't miss it.
