I have never in all the years i have been fishing ever seen a bald eagle caught a fish and not beable to fly away. I was at mill lake in abby today. looked behind me and seen a bald eagle hopping along on the top of the water heading for the dead heads in the middle of the lake. And low and behold he had a very nice sized cat fish. he sat there for a bit dried off after a least 10 or minutes took off with his catch. are cat fish not bottom fish? So how could he have snagged that big gem.

Dude, those eagles are the smartest birds I've ever seen. I was there on Saturday, and I met this Pete guy. This guy told us he can call the eagle out of the tree and feed it. So me and my friend were like "Okay, show us". So he whistles for it, and BAM! Eagle comes out of the tree and circles his tube; then flys back to a tree. Then Pete catches a small rainbow and clubs it. He whistles, holds the trout in the air for the eagle. As the eagle comes out of the tree, he throws the trout about ten feet from him. The eagle swoops down and takes it.
What probably happend was that the eagle saw some fisherman playing it and watched him bring it in, and when he went to release it, the eagle swooped down and took it. The eagles there are known to snatch the fish that you are fighting and fly off with it while the hook is still in it. Many people break rods there because of the eagles.

Thats all I have to say.

Thanks for the comments. The shots were taken with an Olympus 3.2 meg with a 3X zoom.I take it with me every time I go fishing. Here is a lucky shot I got about three weeks ago of my fishing friend Mark Wong and an air borne rainbow.
