i think fishing should be pretty good. try apex hotspots or plugs with about 3 oz weight or more. try getting down a bit. it doesn't seem to matter where you fish, in the middle or close to shore. good luck and let us know how you make out. ps remember to check the regs. you need single barbless hooks.

Hey Fella's...Well the weather was horrible but I managed to get out on Saturday in a boat to troll for some large trout. Unfortunately the fishing at Mabel Lake right now is really slow. We didnt even get a bite using wedding bands, some spinners, and even bait fishing with no luck. My advice, go to the lake with a down-rigger, you really need to get down there to where the big guys are hiding!

I don't know about the big fish, but a long time ago (20 years) there were 2 spots I fished that had a lot of action at that lake. The first was an area called cottonwoods (I think), where there's a nice beach and a stream coming into the lake. Closer to the creak were dollys, and as you moved away there tons of small rainbows (trolling flies or flatfish) 20-50ft away from the shore. Another place I fished all the time were the flats near where there is a river flowing out of the lake. I use a sinking tip fly line (its pretty shallow there) with a flatfish. There was a school(s) of trout that seemed to continually roam that flats and you would troll through them every 15 minutes or so and pick up a fish or a double header. But, that was 20 years ago.

They say there is a killer salmon run starting July 25th. Im gonna head back up in mid August and try fishing in "Salmon Alley" as they call it located by the cabins on the other side of the river. Im going to go back with downriggers though to get down to the right depths.
