Hey, so the craziest thing happend the other day at Latimer Pit (Pond now, I guess). I was out in my tube, and kept seeing fish rise over in the far corner of the lake. A couple large fished jumped too. As I headed over and switched up to a dry line, I all of a sudden hit bottom. I stood up, turned around, and looked in the direction of the rises. It ended up being a school of carp on this flat that I never knew existed. I was just standing there and watching them feed.
It felt like I was stalking bonefish in the Bahamas, or casting to tailing Redfish in Texas. These fish were huge, and everywhere. Little tine submarines. The carp were "mudding", or "tailing", which ever term you know it as when they stick their noses in the ground when looking for food. Some were feeding on the surface, and some were mudding. I threw every fly I had at them. Dries, streamers, nymphs, scuds, chironomids, everything. I got a total of one hit, and that was on a yellow Woolyworm, and I missed the hit as I was gathering the slack.

My question is this: What flies do carp like?
speedy

i don't know of any carp that will take a fly, usually doe balls work well for them, they do fight like hell.

Hey Loius,

Was there any sign of trout at the pond? Has it been stocked? Water level ???

No trout action for me. Saw some rises, but it could've been more carp. Small Chironomid hatch was coming off, but other than that, nothing worth noting.

You can try casting pieces of bread crust. They may look more tempting than tiny flies.
Can you please let me know where Latimer pond is located?
Thanks!

Its at 28th and 200th out in Langley. It has some small catchables when they stock it, plus a few 3n trout that they throw in for the chance at the "big one". Lots of carp now too, and alot of Pumpkinseed sunfish in there now.

If you want to learn about carp fishing, you girls should go ask the beekos on www.fishingwithrod.com

They are carp heroes there.
