I'm going fishing at Buntzen Lake tomorrow and was wondering what it use when trolling from a canoe. I have a fly rod and a bait rod. Please help me out so that I can get the big Rainbow Trout

your best bet at buntzen is to fish around the fish pens to the left of southbeach on the other side of that little crap island. most fish in the lake are hatchery and they're use to being fed domestically with commercial food. so just canoe around the floating pen and chuck small bait patterns or spinners. just troll around it one or two times and i guarrantee you'll slaughter them. they like to hang out there because the food they were use to eating sifts through the pens.

The fish pen have not been used to rear fish for a few years now. I have had better luck between the island to the left of the dock and the one straight ahead...There is a bit of a tapered ledge there.. troll that area... this is not to say by the pens isnt good...just I've had better luck elswhere lately...

Thanx a lot I will try both places next weekend, I did get a bit going around the pen last week on a silver minow and and again the next day but didn't get any fish to the boat.

I will keep trying

At Buntzen, launch at the ramp, then troll straight out on a line taking you to the right side of the island. Drop your line's as soon as you can't see the bottom.
After parallelling the island, angle right towards the rock face over there. Go past that to the little waterfall and then to the second rock face, turn around and come back closer or farther from shore, do a loop of the "hatchery" area, and back to the launch. Takes me about 3-4 hours, have never hooked less then 10 fish on that loop. Trolling a small fly any colour (Black Spratley is easy to find and works well) with a sinking/sinking tip line on one side and a flatfish (pearch skin - I think its called) with 1-3 small buckshot on the other.
You should hook your first fish 1/2 way to the island, and definitely once your lures are parallel to the island. If not, change depth if you can.
Good luck.

Could you show me the picture of your lure? What kind of lure do you use to troll in buntzen lake.

We use flys and a red wedding band.

Not sure why the water was up, but I am curious if the lake is open every day or does it get shut down? Are there only certain hours you can go into the lake?

I know the park is open every day from 8:00am to dusk. I also went up there and ask someone els and they said they heard that two giant rocks fell down the hill and damaged the dam so they had to shut it down until the get it fixed. I hope this wont stop the fish from biting.
