fisher88, hi!

Chinook is present in Vedder river from late July till November. Early run is mostly red springs. Starting September most of springs will be white.

Vedder will attract a lot of anglers during Coho season (October-November).

This year you will also see pinks in the system (September-October).

I am not aware of any closures for chinooks for Vedder. The only fish that is heavily regulated is sockeye.

As for tackle - bottom bouncing is the mainstream technique for Vedder (and chinooks in particular):

1. baitcasting rod (ex., Shimano 10', 12-20lb line test)
2. baitcasting reel (Shimano, Abu Garcia, etc.)
3. main line: 35-50 lb
4. foam float
5. pencil weights
6. leader: 15-25lb
7. yarn eggs pattern (#2/0-#3/0 hook with yarn/wool) - see the picture.
8. three-way swivel

When you will be buying this equipment, guys at the store will show how to put everything together.

And on the water just spend 10 minutes watching other guys fishing. You will get the idea soon.

Tight lines and sharp hooks!
Alex

This is how our buddies are fishing for chinook from a bridge over a Shuswap river
