Does anybody know when the Coho go up the Stave River? And what do you use on the River. I know it is open all year its just I dont know when to fish. Also where is it a good spot to fish at the CP Rail Bridge?
fnfloy

Does anybody know anything. I would like to know when it is open.
Fishin is bad medicine

it's not a coho but i did land a bright jack chinook last weekend.
leadbelly

spoons and spinners under the highway bridge starting in a week or so.
fnfloy

how can I find out when it is open? What coulour of spinners or spoons work the best? Is it for coho?
leadbelly

its open now for salmon retention, but always keep the synopsis and the salmon supliment close at hand to keep up to date as well as the dfo website for changes.ALways get a sad laugh outha guys landing a fish and looking around asking-can I keep it? so its good that you asked here first.as far as spoon or spinner color try blue fox #3 spinners in any bright color, coho spoons or ultra spoons in metal colors like brass or silver, or the perenial favorite, the crockodile spoon in hammered brass fire stripe, 2/3 oz.And yes its all about coho but you will see or hook lots of chum also.
Fishin is bad medicine

leadbelly, is it crowded there during the salmon run?
leadbelly

up at the dam with all the chum snaggers it is, and can be at the bridge but usually not too bad
fnfloy

LEADBELLY. What do u thinks works best for catchin the coho? Also do you have a picture of the Blue Fox that you use? I cant find it on the website. Could you list what you need to fish there like do u need any weight? I dont know anything about Stave river. I know how to fish vedder and fraser so I know some stuff. But nothin about the Stave. Thanks man.
leadbelly

spoons like gibbs coho 45 brass or little cleo or ultra spoon similar size or crockodile spoons like everyone else uses-all good for deep moving water like around the highway bridge, be prepared for chum too.For smaller or still water try spinners like this but single barbless hooks and you might need to put a bit of lead on the line to get it to sink down.cant figger out how to ge ta pic on.
fnfloy

Your not aloud to use triple barbed righ?
leadbelly

here is a linc to the website
http://www.bluefox.com/products/kits/IDX_kits.html
being from the US and the more is better attitude they are sold with treble barbed hooks.Only use sigle barbless hooks of good quality, some people add a swivel between the spinner/splitring and the hook also.
fnfloy

so you dont need a weight in the fast moving water? Do u just cast it out and then reel it in slowly? Also is there a lot of action there I think I might use the Gibbs Koho #45 Brass under ther highway bridge. Is it good fishing like out be the log boombs if I took a boat out there? Cause I always see people tied to the log booms and fishing off there boat.
leadbelly

ya no shortage of fish caught from shore at the bridge area, as well as from a boat or log boom.Coho and chum mill around in schools as well as come in with the incoming tides.
fnfloy

So when is the best time to go? And you dont need a weight or what? Or do u just need a swivel and a litre. If so what lbs test should i have as a litre. Oh yah also what do u use when you go there blue fox? and do i cast it out and then reel it in slowly? Also you put a pic on by hitting browse underneath and then going to the picture and clicking on it.
leadbelly

you just cast out and let it sink abit then slowly retrieve, you can add some weight for distance if yer not having any luck.I use spinners in smaller water and Mor- Tac Stilly spoons in hammered copper, B C Steel spoons in Brass/nickle and Gibbs coho #45 in copper, brass or blue illusion scale or Gibbs Ultra spoon blue/nickle.As for timing they should be here in a week or two.
fnfloy

Also does wool work like fishing on the vedder? Can you use a float and some wool and a lead weight?

fnfloy

he can you tell me when it is open by listing the date when you find it out

Thanks
el-nino2010

heres a pic of blu fox spinners. hope this helps. interesting conversation you two are having.
leadbelly

whys that?
fnfloy

Thanks for the pic
fnfloy

so how do you change the triple barbed to single barbed?
Tavin02

You dont have to,just go to Walmart or Canadian tire they sell them single hooked.
Heff

Been to the stave a couple days in a row.Pretty quite,
had a big one on the line ,but got away..Using a blue fox #2
Id say another week or two, will be beter.
leadbelly

if you do get something with a treble, cut it off with a pair of sidecutters, put on a split ring and put the hook onto the splitring.I also crush the trebles for displosal.
fnfloy

Hey Heff what did u get when you went and how many? Also were you under the highway bridge? And it is open well i guess it is because you were fishing. What is the limit for coho? Also is there springs in there.
Fishin is bad medicine

Yes, there are springs at the stave. I haven't seen very many, one dead one and one chrome jack that I landed earlier this month. The limit for Coho is4 hatchery fish per day, but only two over 35cm.
leadbelly

saw some chum at the mouth today
fnfloy

So is it worth going out this weekend?
el-nino2010

my friend was fishing the stave this afternoon near the highway bridge and caught 2 wild coho both released. chums are starting to show as well.
fnfloy

has any one else been fishing the Stave lately. If so what did you catch. Is it worth goin out?
fnfloy

fnfloy

Good Fishin in the stave River ????????
Bertoli

Hey fnfloy! Why dont you go to the river and drop a line in instead asking everything under the sun! You ll learn a little more if you just go give it a try
fnfloy

el-nino2010

well bertoli is right you know. i was at the stave trying to catch the biggest chum on earth today with a couple of friends. be there before 11am as the good holes are usally taken by then. lots of coho but very hard to catch and mostly wild. we were under the highway bridge so get out there and try your luck.
fnfloy

Tavin02

Are you 10 years old or what?
el-nino2010

with an attitude like that its no point in answering any more threads from you. your out kid!
fnfloy

marshal

fnfloy... way too immature. the way you took those comments was not how they were intending them. I have no idea who they are and I could easily read that. OK to ask questions but DO NOT pull that sh--! I don't blame them if you are now 'out'
tcooke

I agree, you have been told it was good and you keep asking the same question. It has been answered numerous times. If you want help from fellow fishermen, I suggest you keep your attitude towards your mom. Or else no-one will ever help you and youll be stuck with a worm and a hook and no fish to bite it.
fnfloy

well sorry man like i said i overreacted, whatever who cares just move on and dont worry about it. Like I said, just trying to find out some info and nobody was ansewring. so i kept asking and you dont to get all mad about it.
scotttaylor

Anyone have any luck with coho yet this year ??
Art81

fnfloy, don't be getting mad at people if they aren't giving you info. What's in it for them to give you info? A lot of it is going out an experimenting. You might be skunked ... tough luck. As for openings, don't trust what people say on here. Most don't know the regs. Call fisheries or email and get an answer from someone who knows. I've found they respond very quickly and concisely.

Amazing, I had hair back then
