thanks yak...i don't suppose you'd have that link handy?

The Socs are closed on thursday.

are you sure sockeye is over on thursday?

august 19 therye shutting the river down for soks. also dfo is plannong on making the sockeye a sport fishery...when i don't know. maybe someone else has more info?

correction: Sockeye are closed now. August 18

this sounds kind of stupid but i think they should close down sockeye for 2 year or even a year just to rebuild the stocks. that includes native nets and commercial. it sounds stupid but thats my opinion

Poor water conditions (warm water in the fraser) and spawning habitat degridation are the 2 largest factors endangering the sockeye. Sockeye run in 4 cycles, 2 low years and 2 peak year is a peak year and shutting down any fisheries then would be pointless unless environmental conditions indicate otherwise.

In 4 years time when this years offspring return (and this year was the low of lows) then it may make sense to shut down all fisheries if indeed we see poor spawning bed returns this year or if environmental factors are poor.
