Author Topic: Need some help!! FROM THE ROD EXPERTS!!

I was asking about what rod I should get for myself in a 8wt or 9wt I found this rod and the guys said he would let it go for $140 It is a custom built St. Criox Legend Ultra and I am kinda new to this and so here is the discription and some pics---->New Custom Built St. Croix SC IV, 4F908.4. 8wt, 9' in length, Titanium anodized uplocking, double locking reel seat with mahogany insert, single well portuguese cork handle with mahogany capped ends, Hopkins & Holloway titanium #20 & #16 stripper guides, 7 silver single foot guides and tip top. Wrapped in green thread with copper trim. Green blank.

I was also wondering on the guides of this rod because I have never used a rod that doesn't have snake guides like this one does so is this going to make it harder for me to cast of I do't have snake guides??

ANYONE!!! I just would like to hear a little feedback if this is a good deal??

Ok. I've got a st Croix and I think thats an excellent price, Great bend in those rods, right up there with a Saga. BP

snake guides or not it'll cast really nice...

I dont think the guides really make that much difference.

$140 for that rod?
Buy it, or i will.
St. Croix is an excellent company. Especially for that deescription.

I have two St is a five weight fly and the other is a steelheading rod...I've been happy with both of them...the fly rod is a four piece that has a very nice action...they stand behind their product as well....couple of years ago I slammed the tailgate on my truck (momentary lack of attention) and cut one section in half....they replaced the whole rod, no questions.....

Another good rod company is Temple Fork Outfitters.
Best warranty you can think of (copied over from the TFO website):

Now, were not talking the limited warranty you might get with some other rods does not include this, that and the other in odd months with a full moon. Nope, anything happens to this rod in your lifetime, well gladly make it right. Sasquatch eats it? No problem. Jealous spouse stuffs it in the garburator? Sure thing. Run over it with your truck? Just $25, plus GST. Pause for a moment to consider the magnitude of this offer.

Thats right. They can do this becasue they are a canadian company based in Alberta that doesnt spend money on magazine advertisements that make you pay big bucks in the end to cover the price for the add.
They are super affordable (the Lefty Kreh signature series reatials for $130 canadian

great price. period.
as for the weight, it might be an overkill for small trout, but sure will work well for steelhead and coho salmon.
